After a three-month review, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), Phila., producer of the world’s largest indoor flower show, has selected LevLane, Phila., as its first brand agency. Five other agency finalists, unnamed, were all Philadelphia-based and among the city’s very largest. The initial assignment will be an organization-wide rebranding, to be followed in 2012 with public-facing work likely to include broadcast, print, outdoor, digital and social media. Budget is undisclosed.
Selection was based on a presentation of PHS rebranding strategy and of LevLane agency credentials. Senior Vice President Kate Wilhem states, “the Horticultural Society’s long and esteemed standing within the Philadelphia region is something we cherish. Some of the concepts we’ve championed over our 184-year history, green ideas like sustainability and community gardens, are now societal essentials. LevLane’s record of service within the Philadelphia community and its passion for environmental brand work were a perfect match for us.”
LevLane executive creative director Bruce Lev adds, “Our agency mission, centered on not just brand awareness but brand affinity, is the right solve for PHS. They have the awareness. And they have all the ingredients to grow their love. This is a prominent Pennsylvania client with a regional footprint and aspirations that go way beyond that. We see PHS as a deep-rooted participant in the world’s ever-expanding, green dialogue.”

LevLane Scores big in 4A’s IAAS Program
/in Account Service, Agency, Feature, News, PR, The David In LevLane/by LEVLANE ADVERTISINGTwo of our brightest up and coming staffers, Cortney and Emily, completed the 4A’s Institute of Advanced Advertising Studies (IAAS) last Thursday evening, and graduated with honors. As you know, the IAAS program provides an intensive and comprehensive training environment for young, promising professionals in our industry. Cortney and Emily participated with about 25 other “students” from advertising agencies in the 4A’s Phila. council area.
Cortney, along with her “agency team” partners, won the overall competition for the Hertz Rental Car account. Congratulations, Cortney. We have a proud tradition at LevLane for bringing home a winning team in this tough competition. Thanks so much for keeping the streak alive.
Now a shout-out to Emily. Although not on the winning agency team, Emily had a big winning idea. Emily was singled out at the graduation, by the Hertz client, for her fabulous suggestion of a public relations program which Hertz says it will consider implementing. Wow! Congratulation, Emily.
Also, a big thank you to Drake, Scott, and Lori for participating in the program and contributing their outstanding mentoring skills.
Thanks to all of you who make this 4A’s program possible, and a final congratulations to Cortney and Emily for considerable extracurricular hours and a ton of hard work.

Newsroom Content Advisory
/in Feature, News, PR/by LEVLANE ADVERTISINGWe’ve been having conversations around the LevLane office about posting content to company newsrooms without infringing on copyrights. After some internal debate and discussion with legal counsel, we’ve come up with some do’s and don’ts for posting content to company newsrooms.
Whether we update your newsroom or not, we wanted to make sure we shared these best practices with you.
The ideal way to post news to your newsroom is to include the title of the article, date, news outlet and a link to the full article where it originates online. You may craft your own language that explains the content of the full piece, but should not directly lift any copy from the article and place it on your website.
Below is an example of what this might look like:
You can also access the Prudential Newsroom here. Notice that Prudential writes its own short blurb about the article rather than lifting from the actual piece.
Another good example is Microsoft In The News:
Microsoft does not include original language about the piece, but instead links directly to the original source.
It is not recommended that you copy and paste content from the original source onto your website. Doing this may infringe on copyright laws. Below is an example of how you SHOULD NOT post news to your newsroom:
Just some food for thought to help make your newsroom the best it can be.

LevLane Welcomes Two New Clients
/in Account Service, Agency, Feature, News/by LEVLANE ADVERTISINGPennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS)
PHS was founded in 1827, and is said to be the oldest and largest horticultural society in America. Their mission: motivate people to improve quality of life and create a sense of community through horticulture. PHS produces and manages a variety of shows, competitions and programs, the most notable being the Philadelphia International Flower Show, held each winter at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This year’s show attracted 265,000 visitors from around the world, and had an estimated economic impact of $61 million.
LevLane has been hired as the first marketing communications agency for PHS. We will lead an organization-wide rebranding effort, examine their concepts and programs, and recommend ways to expand their regional footprint via promotion and media.
The Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster (GPIC) for Energy Efficient Buildings
GPIC is a consortium of academic institutions, federal laboratories, global industry partners, regional economic development agencies and other stakeholders that joined forces to secure federal and state funding, and to establish an Energy Innovation Hub at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The funding will help foster national energy independence and create quality jobs for the region.
The goals of GPIC are to transform the building retrofit industry from serial fragmentation to integrated systems; to improve design tools, building systems, public policies, market incentives and workforce skills needed to achieve a 50 percent reduction in energy use in buildings; and to stimulate private investment and quality job creation in Greater Philadelphia and beyond.
LevLane has been retained to help address organizational identity issues, including the GPIC name, logo, and other branding considerations.
